I have designed this course to introduce you to what is known as the ‘Formal elements of Art’. Line, shape, perspective, form, tone, texture, colour and composition. The formal elements are the skills used by artists when creating art and I believe all beginners should be taught these skills.
Each week we will create a piece of art that uses two or more of the formal elements and by the end of the course you will have been taught the basic principles and understanding of each formal element. I will also teach you how to use and mix colour using both watercolour and acrylic. We will also explore the importance of light and dark by creating work through observational still life drawing.
The word ‘Formal’ sounds dry and boring but it is my mission to make this course fun & creative whilst providing you with a solid grounding in the fundamentals of drawing and painting that will enable you to move forward & create your own art independently.
A bit about me – I am a fully qualified lecturer in Art & Design and hold a BA Hons & PGCE.
I have been teaching students for over 20 years. It is my passion to encourage and support people to believe in themselves whilst showing them the skills & techniques to reach their own creative potential.
